TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Public Safety, Animal Services Division, is hosting a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs and cats on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Animal Services facility, located at 28123 County Road 561 in Tavares.
The rabies vaccination and certificate are free to Lake County residents. To be eligible for the free shots, residents must purchase a County pet license. For a spayed or neutered pet, the license is $5 and for a pet that is not spayed or neutered the license is $11. Only cash will be accepted at the event.
The December clinic is the first of the County’s new fiscal year. From September 2007 to May 2008, the Animal Services Division hosted five free rabies vaccination clinics. It was the first time the Division was able to provide the service as the addition of a part-time veterinarian made the free clinics possible. During the clinics, more than 1,900 vaccinations were administered.
Pets brought to the shelter for the vaccination clinic are required to be either on a leash or in a carrier. For more information about the rabies vaccination clinic, call the Lake County Animal Services Division at (352) 343-9688. Animal Services is open for pet adoptions Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
