Three Lake County Commissioners to be sworn into office

RELEASE DATE: November 14, 2008

TAVARES — Three Lake County Commissioners will be sworn into office during an investiture ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 9 a.m. in the County Commission Chambers, located on the second floor of the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares.

County Commissioners Jennifer Hill, District 1; Jimmy Conner, District 3, and Welton G. Cadwell, District 5, will take the oath of office during the ceremony. Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be served during a welcome reception for the three newly elected Lake County officials. The public is welcomed to attend the investiture ceremony and reception. Immediately following the ceremony and reception, the Lake County Board of County Commissioners will conduct its regularly scheduled meeting.

Commissioner Hill was elected to her third term on the County Commission. She has represented the County Commission on numerous committees, including Facilities & Capital Improvements, Economic Development Council, Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, Impact Fee Committee and Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

Commissioner Conner is the newest elected official to the Board of County Commissioners. A native of Lake County, he graduated from Tavares High School, Lake-Sumter Community College and Florida State University. Conner is a longtime Lake County business owner. In 1979, he founded Jimmy Conner & Associates, an insurance firm. His previous public service positions include three terms on the Lake County School Board, which he served as Chairman for three years, and a Tavares City Council member for 10 years with three terms as Council President. He and his wife, Sherry, have four children and two grandchildren.

Commissioner Cadwell is set to begin his fifth term on the Board. He previously served on the Umatilla City Council and as the City’s Clerk. He served as president of the Florida Association of Counties Board of Directors in 2005-2006. He is currently representing Florida on the National Association of Counties (NACo) Board and has been appointed on multiple occasions to several NACo steering committees. He is currently Chairman of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, a position he has held on six different occasions.
