TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Community Services collected more than 6,000 pounds of food during its 3rd Annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign this past Saturday, Nov. 22, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The goal of the annual charity food drive is to stuff donated nonperishable food and canned goods, baby food and pet food into a bus. The buses were located at the Wal-Mart stores in Mount Dora at 17030 U.S. Highway 441 and Leesburg at 2501 N. Citrus Blvd. The event also featured a live radio broadcast provided by WKIQ (1240 AM) at the Mount Dora location.
“The response we received this year is tremendous,” said Ken Harley, Director of the Public Transportation Division. “The success of this year’s event could not have been possible without the many volunteers helping to organize and manage the event, as well as the giving spirit of the community”.
The nonperishable food collected during the “Stuff the Bus” campaign was donated to the Salvation Army Human Care Network and the Leesburg Food Bank.
