TAVARES — Lake County Commissioner Debbie Stivender is encouraging residents to attend a Town Hall Meeting that will address underage drinking scheduled for Thursday, April 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Lake-Sumter Community College Paul P. Williams Auditorium, 9501 U.S. Highway 441, Leesburg.
“According to a 2004 Florida Youth Substance Abuse Survey, Lake County is sixth in the state for underage drinking, which is unacceptable,” Stivender said. “I urge all residents to join this effort to curb underage drinking in the County.”
At the Town Hall Meeting, a distinguished panel of experts from Lake County and across the state will join Bill Janes, Director of the Florida Office of Drug Control, to discuss ways the local community can reduce underage drinking. Appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush, Janes is responsible for the coordination of all state efforts to decrease drug abuse and its consequences in Florida.
