EUSTIS — The Lake County Department of Public Works will begin improvements on County Road 44 from County Road 473 to County Road 452, including resurfacing, widening to accommodate 3-foot paved shoulders, constructing turn lanes and installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Forest Drive.
Through a Local Agency Program Agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the project also includes the construction of turn lanes at the intersection of Shelley Drive. The project was awarded to DAB Contractors Inc. on Dec. 16, 2008 and is expected to be completed in November 2009. The $4 million project is being funded through $3.9 million in road impact fees and $144,000 through a FDOT reimbursement.
“This project will address many of the growing safety concerns on County Road 44 while improving the overall traffic flow and durability of the roadway,” said Lori Conway, Director of the Lake County Department of Public Works, Funding & Production Division.
