TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Public Works, Parks and Trails Division, will host a grand opening of a fishing pier and dog park at Lake Idamere Park, located south of Tavares off County Road 448 near the State Road 19 intersection, on Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The new additions to this 40-acre park include an 80-foot long, 8-foot wide fishing pier and a one-and-a-half acre dog park. The grand-opening celebration will include arts and crafts activities for children. Pet owners are encouraged to bring a copy of their dog’s vaccination records as many pets are expected to be present in the dog park during the celebration.
The dog park is located in the parking lot center island of Lake Idamere Park and features three separate areas; one for larger dogs, another for smaller canines and a third for future expansion of a doggie obstacle course. The fenced-in dog park also offers multiple entry gates, dog-waste stations, water stations and plenty of shade trees.
The fishing pier, which overlooks the 96-acre Lake Idamere, features a 30-by-12-foot platform at the end of the pier and is constructed of low-maintenance and durable composite decking.
