A free grant-writing workshop will be presented by the state Division of Cultural Affairs on Friday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares.
Hosted by the Lake County Cultural Affairs Council, the workshop is open to the public and will provide overviews of all Division grant programs as well as assist organizations in preparing their applications to the Cultural Support Grants Program.

A total of $5,000 has been allocated for distribution of a minimum of five grants of up to a $1,000 each. As the designated local arts agency in Lake County, the Cultural Affairs Council receive funds for the grant program from the sale of the “State of the Arts” vehicle license plates in Lake County. Past recipients of the grants include downtown organizations, schools, theatre and civic groups.

The deadline for submitting a grant application is Jan. 7 at 5 p.m. Applications can be mailed to the Lake County Cultural Affairs Council in the office of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, 20763 U.S. Highway 27, Groveland, Fla., 34736. Late applications will not be considered and faxed copies will not be accepted.

Grants are not available to individuals. Organizations eligible for funding (including not-for-profit arts organizations, local governments and schools) must be based in Lake County.

The Cultural Arts Council will determine funding based on their evaluation of the merits of all proposals submitted. The Council reserves the right to reject any proposals reviewed. Grant applicants will be notified of the Council decision in writing. Awards will be announced at the Jan. 18 Council meeting.
