Prestigious art show to be showcased in Lake County

TAVARES — The largest collection of artistic works composed entirely by women will grace Lake County on Friday, Nov. 4, at Tavares City Hall, 201 E. Main St.

Art Show

The collection of about 100 pieces of art is brought to Lake County by the Florida Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) of the Central East and Central Region. The opening reception for the art display will be Nov. 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

“The largest exhibit we have ever had is 65 pieces so this will be a lot more art,” said Tammey Rogers, Administrative Assistant for the City of Tavares. “The interesting thing is it is art by all female artists.

“The artists are from all over, some from Lake County, Central Florida and even some from Europe. I think it is going to be interested in that regard as well.”

The event has garnered such statewide attention that the state board members of the NMWA are expected to travel from Tallahassee to Lake County for the opening. More than 200 invitations were mailed out for the elegantly catered affair, which is also open to the public and will feature professional concert flautist Olesya Pankiv and her daughter, cellist Oksana Pankiv.

Works in all media and genre will be displayed including painting, sculpture, ceramic, drawing, jewelry, glass, photography and more. Many of the works of art are available for purchase.

The City of Tavares has been organizing art shows at its City Hall for four years, but this event features the greatest amount of artwork and is expected to bring the largest turnout for an opening reception. Sponsors of the event are the City of Tavares, the NMWA Central East and Central Region, Quality Printing, the Lake County Cultural Affairs Council and the Lake County Department of Economic Development and Tourism.
