TAVARES — Time is running out for local event organizers to promote winter events in the upcoming quarterly issue of the Lake County Special Events Guide, published by the Lake County Department of Economic Development and Tourism.
The deadline for submitting events for the January – March 2006 brochure of Lake County events is Wednesday, Oct. 26. Every three months, the Department encourages event organizers to log on to the online calendar to submit events.
The events posted on the online calendar are then printed in the four-color events guide. Each quarter, 100,000 guides are printed and distributed throughout the state and to inquiring tourists. In the current event brochure, more than 110 events are listed.
Kathy Pagan, Executive Associate of the Lake County Department of Economic Development and Tourism, commonly asks local event organizers, “We spend more than $1 million a year to promote events, is yours one of them?”
While posting events by the deadline on the Tourism Web site secures a spot in the upcoming event guide, it also enables the Department to promote those events through other advertising avenues, such as WFTV Channel 9, ICFlorida Web site, Visit FLA event publications, an interactive tourism CD-ROM, Orlando Sentinel, Orlando Business Journal and Travel Host magazines.
