Lake-Sumter MPO to host regional transportation summit

LEESBURG — The Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) will host a “Regional Transportation Summit” on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lake-Sumter Community College Everett A. Kelly Convocation Center located at 9501 U.S. Highway 441, Leesburg.

The theme of the MPO’s first summit is “building regional partnerships.” The summit features multiple speakers from various agencies that are involved with planning the transportation network in Lake and Sumter counties, including the Expressway Authority, Turnpike Enterprise and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

“This summit will bring together all the transportation partners in the region to help everyone understand how they benefit transportation and how we can better utilize their services,” said T.J. Fish, Executive Director of the Lake-Sumter MPO. “This forum will also assist the communities of Lake and Sumter counties to come to a better understanding of how the MPO functions.”

The keynote speaker of the summit is Robert Romig, Director of the Office of Policy Planning for the FDOT Central Office in Tallahassee. Other speakers at the summitt include: Lake County Commissioner and MPO Chairman Debbie Stivender; Mike Snyder, Executive Director of the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority; Jim Ely, Executive Director of the Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise; Lisa Bacot, Executive Director of the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged; and George Gilhooley, FDOT Secretary for District 5.
