Mission Inn to host Symetra Tour event this month

RELEASE DATE: October 8, 2020

Howey-in-the-Hills – Mission Inn Resort & Club will host the Symetra Tour’s inaugural Mission Inn Championship this month from Oct. 15-17. It is presented by Insurance Office of America (IOA).

During the Symetra Tour, which is also known as the Road to the LPGA, competitors will battle for a total purse of $125,000 on the El Campeón course. Individuals are set to compete in a 54-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The winner’s share for the event is $18,750. The 84 starting contestants include Wake Forest University golfer Rachel Kuehn, who is being sponsored by Mission Inn.

“Mission Inn Resort is pleased to welcome the first LPGA Tour qualifying event this month,” said Bud Beucher, Vice President & General Manager of the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills. “Admission to the event is free. Come out and watch these future stars of the LPGA play in the Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship.”

Mission Inn Resort & Club has hosted more than 20 NCAA Championships and numerous PGA qualifying schools on both its golf courses over the years, as well as U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur qualifiers. However, this month’s competition on the 103-year old El Campeón course is the first LPGA event to take place at the resort.

“On behalf of our partners at Visit Lake and Mission Inn Resort & Club, as well as our incoming Board Chair Faron Kelley (ESPN Wide World of Sports) and Past Chair, Paul Johns (Orlando Health South Lake Hospital), we are honored the Symetra Tour has chosen the world-renowned Mission Inn Resort & Club as one of their 2020 tour stops,” said Jason Siegel, President & CEO of the Greater Orlando Sports Commission. “Our community is appreciative of the opportunity to host the inaugural Mission Inn Championship presented by IOA, along with ancillary events such as the Pro-Am Tournament.
