The Lake County Office of Animal Services provides for public safety and animal welfare. The shelter promotes responsible pet ownership, reunites lost pets with their families and helps people select a new furry friend. The Animal Shelter is the Countywide receiving facility for housing strays, animals in quarantine and unwanted domestic animals.

Note: In May 2018, the Board of County Commissioners voted to amend Chapter Four of the Lake County Code, which includes the removal of the requirement for Lake County residents to obtain a license for pets vaccinated against rabies. Rabies vaccinations are still required by law.
