Job Summary:
The essential function of the position within the organization is to coordinate and supervise the daily maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment owned and operated by Lake County. The position is responsible for supervising maintenance shop personnel; scheduling, coordinating, overseeing and performing maintenance and repair work; maintaining shop efficiency, productivity and safety; ensuring the provision of professional customer service at all times, and performing related technical, supervisory and administrative tasks as required.
May be required to assist with emergency support functions in the event of a declared emergency and/or any other emergency duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Requires high school diploma or GED, and one year of college or vocational school education in automotive mechanics, fleet management or a closely related field with six years of related experience, of which at least three years were as a shop supervisor or chief mechanic. Management/Supervisory Experience and Emergency Vehicle experience preferred but not required.
Experience operating a forklift preferred but not required. Knowledge of the principles and terminology of automotive mechanics. Ability to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate repair work. Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
Knowledge of automotive tools. Ability to use hand and power tools to perform a variety of mechanical work. Ability to replace and tighten screws and bolts to required torque. Ability to perform general maintenance and repair to medium-duty diesel vehicles, including engine, transmission, front-end and body components. Ability to troubleshoot and correct electrical problems and to install various electrical accessories. Knowledge of vehicle A/C systems. Ability to check and service systems and add refrigerant; ability to repair or rebuild A/C system. Ability to order and purchase parts and supplies, and ability to work with a variety of vendors and contractors. Ability to establish and maintain various types of service and other records. Requires a valid Florida Class “B” CDL license – or must be obtained within 6 months of employment; may be required to possess or obtain technical certification(s) as deemed necessary by supervisor (including but not limited to general pesticide application, forklift certification, ASE Certifications in Automotive / Truck Repair and/or EVT Certifications.). Possess ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certification or obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
