Viva Libros Poetry Contest

¡Viva Libros! Poetry Contest

A special poetry event will be held this year as part of the 2013 Lake County BookFest. The Viva Libros! Poetry Contest is designed to offer local writers the opportunity of being reviewed by Pulitzer Prize nominee Vivian Shipley. The Poetry Contest is for ages 18 and up and entries are being accepted until February 8th. Qualifying entries may be on any topic and may be any style of writing.

There will be 18 winners selected. These poets will be invited to attend a special private workshop with Ms. Shipley on Thursday, March 14th in the W.T. Bland Public Library from 10 a.m. until noon. At 1 p.m. The winners will be invited to read to the public in an event hosted by Vivian Shipley, Darlin’ Neal and Ryan Van Cleave. The winning poems will also be published on the Lake County Library System website Writers’ Page.

Special guest judge Vivian Shipley is a two-time recipient of the Paterson Award for Sustained Literary Achievement, the Library of Congress’s Connecticut Lifetime Achievement Award for Service to the Literary Community, the Connecticut Book Award for Poetry, the Lucille Medwick Prize from the Poetry Society of America, the Robert Frost Foundation Poetry Prize, the Ann Stanford Poetry Prize from the University of Southern California, the Marble Faun Poetry Prize from the William Faulkner Society, the Daniel Varoujan Prize from the New England Poetry Club, the Hart Crane Prize from Kent State, the Connecticut Press Club Prize for Best Creative Writing, and the Binghamton University Milt Kessler Poetry Book Award.

The Poetry Contest is for ages 18 and up. Qualifying entries should be:

Winners will be notified by phone or email and all poets are welcome to our Authors Reception on Friday, March 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the W.T. Bland Public Library.


 

How to Submit Your Entries

Entries are being accepted now through February 8, 2013.
There is a limit of 3 entries per person. Entries received after first three will be discarded.

  1. Submit your entry online via the Submission Form (PDF or Word Files only)

     
  2. Submit your poem with completed entry form at any of the 15 Lake County Library System libraries.

     
  3. Fax your poem with completed entry form to (352) 383-9982.

     
  4. Mail your poem with completed entry form to:

    Entry forms will be available at any Lake County Library location or download printable entry form here. Incomplete forms will not be considered
