Adult Literacy Program @ the Library

The Lake County Library System is looking for volunteer tutors throughout the county to work with adults in one-on-one and small group sessions. Topics include Basic English and basic academic topics to help students prepare to take GED classes. Tutors are also needed to deliver beginning technology classes that include internet and basic application topics.

The Lake County Adult Literacy Program is designed to serve adult learners who need help with reading, math and other English skills (conversation, reading, writing, and comprehension). In 2013 this program provided 7,423 volunteer tutor hours to more than 389 learners. The program is now being expanded to include digital literacy topics.

This volunteer-based program offers one-to-one and small group tutoring to include conversation clubs, citizenship classes, reading clubs, and pre-GED language arts & math classes. Trained volunteer tutors and adult learners meet at the library and have access to student workbooks; adult literacy materials and other library resources. The adult learner and the tutor will work together to identify learning goals and set the pace to achieving them!
