Gary Earl, Support Services Manager, Public Resources

Amidst Federal Government time constraints, Gary successfully led and managed a process within the Library Services Division to pursue a bandwidth increase at all libraries. Through the E-Rate program which Gary monitors for the Lake County Library System, libraries are eligible for an 80% rebate on costs associated with internet access. In a limited amount of time, Gary was able to substantiate the wisdom of this option, file necessary paperwork, and keep all parties informed of the progress. This effort required promoting, educating, and coaching multiple Library Directors and their municipalities in adopting this approach to increase internet speed. The result is a contract which will provide fiber installation to all 15 libraries at vendor cost, and internet bandwidth far beyond what is currently available with the flexibility to increase bandwidth with future demand. The resulting infrastructure will provide superior service to library customers and increased efficiency in library operations.
