Over the years, the Fire Stations have continued to grow in their use of technology and their need for more advanced software for reporting, research, training, and daily personnel tracking and monitoring. As the demand for connectivity grew, the speed also grew slower with utilizing the existing technologies. Recognizing a need, Public Safety partnered with Information Technology and conducted research to develop and present a new concept to administration, they coordinated procurement, replaced existing telephone company circuits, and tracked billing to provide the new efficiencies. The results of the enhanced data technology provided faster speeds, increased maintenance efficiencies and significantly reduced Fire Rescue’s monthly recurring data expense. This allowed funds to be diverted to other priority needs in Public Safety that remained unfunded. The collaboration of this team is a true example of how individuals of different departments can come together for a common solution, while meeting each of their individual goals. This improvement was not only valuable for first responders, technologies and budget, but ultimately the citizens of Lake County.
