Lake County has been honored by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada by receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Biennial Budget and Capital Improvement Program - Fiscal Years 2002 and 2003.
Lake County was also recognized as "outstanding" in three of the four categories reviewed. To receive an "outstanding" designation in a category, the three judges must mark a majority of the 26 categories of the evaluation checklist as "outstanding.”
In order to receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and as a communications device.
Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories to receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. Lake County has received this award each year since 1995, the Budget Office's first year to submit.
Lake County was one of the few governments in the country to be awarded a "Special Performance Measures Recognition.” This designation points to the County's commitment to accountability to the citizens for efficient and effective use of time and tax dollars.
