Lake County government offices to close in observance of Veterans Day
All offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector will be closed Monday, Nov. 12 in honor of Veterans Day.

All offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Clerk of Courts, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday and will reopen on Monday, Nov. 27.

Children and families are invited to educational Parks & Trails events in June
Now that school’s out, it’s the perfect time to gather up the kids for an outdoor adventure with Lake County Parks & Trails. Staff offer free guided excursions, educational hikes and more throughout the month of June. In addition to wildlife-watching, Lake County’s parks, trails and recreation facilities are ideal places to play a sport, have a picnic, or enjoy time at a playground or dog park.

Marsh Park & Boat Ramp improvements scheduled
Lake County Parks & Trails on April 24 will begin Phase II of improvements at Marsh Park & Boat Ramp, 36545 Yale Retreat Road, Eustis. The scheduled work, which includes improvements to the park’s internal exit road, paving additional parking areas and other minor work, is expected to last 30 days. During this time, one of two of the park’s exit roads will be closed to traffic and parking will be limited to the existing improved paved parking area near the ramp.

Annual tree giveaway to be held in honor of Arbor Day
In honor of Arbor Day, the Lake Soil & Water Conservation District is giving away bare-root tree seedlings at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19. The event, held in partnership with the Florida Forest Service, will be hosted at the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Center Discovery Gardens Classroom, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares.

Lake County Parks & Trails is inviting nature lovers to free, ranger-led events next month. “August is the true beginning of fall migration with the arrival of early migrants like the Eastern Kingbird and the Louisiana Waterthrush, in addition to the numerous local birds whose young are now out and about on their own,” said Gallus Quigley, expert birder and Trails Coordinator with Parks & Trails. “Butterflies also increase in number during this season, as the summer blooms are near their peak.”
